Method

The Tantravaya Yoga Teacher Training is a comprehensive, internationally-respected program designed to deepen your understanding of yoga and Ayurvedic principles.

The Tantravaya training method is unique in that it’s not limited to any “style” or blend of styles. Instead, it emphasizes universal principles of alignment within the context of Ayurvedic and yogic practices.

Tantravaya Yoga trains exceptional teachers by presenting everything you will ever need to know in order to practice and teach any kind of yoga to anyone – safely and effectively within a system of eight principle actions. These eight principles are necessary and sufficient in every active gesture for yoga and beyond. Furthermore, the eight principles are organized into four pairs of oppositional actions that allow for ultimate individualization – customizing each gesture to each practitioner by balancing the intensity of antagonistic engagements for the specific needs of the individual body in each pose. As a recent graduate has put it: “With the eight principles, I couldn’t help but teach excellently, right from the first class, even though I was nervous.”

With exceptional attention devoted to practical training and ample teaching experience time, Tantravaya Yoga Teacher Trainings have a proven track record of producing effective, confident yoga teachers who are ready to teach upon graduation and stand out in the world of yoga.

Our program is registered with Yoga Alliance and provides the most widely-recognized yoga teacher certification credentials in the world. Our primary goal is to cultivate a solid, safe, and effective practice as the foundation of skillful teaching.

FAQ

Can I really become a yoga teacher online?
We actually believe that we will be training the best teachers ever in this course online. Past students have always said that attending teacher training is like drinking from the fire hose – you can never absorb all the knowledge… so now, with all sessions recorded and available for viewing and reviewing at your own pace – as well as the fact that the Tantravaya Yoga style focuses most on excellent verbal cueing of anatomy-based alignment technique, we are confident that we will train excellent teachers.
How can I apply for financial aid?
You can apply for financial aid with your application for admission: Just let us know what you can afford at this time and what over time with a payment plan, and we will do our very best to meet your need.
Is this a Yoga Alliance training? Will I become certified through Yoga Alliance?
To correct a common misconception, Yoga Alliance does not and cannot certify teachers. It is a registry for teachers and schools. Schools, like Tantravaya Yoga, certify teachers, and our school is registered with Yoga Alliance. So the precise way to put it would be that upon completion of the training, you will be a certified yoga teacher through a Yoga Alliance school, which means you will be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT200.
Will yoga studios be willing to hire teachers trained online?
[From Tantravaya Yoga Director Shy Sayar] As a past owner and director of multiple studios, I can tell you that it is very difficult to get hired at a studio right out of any training, online or otherwise. As I will explain in the Business of Yoga sessions in the training, the best ways to get to teach at a studio is not to try to get hired right off the bat, but rather to offer oneself as an emergency sub, to regularly attend one or more teachers’ classes that you love and let them know directly that you are happy to sub for them, and other such strategies; as an owner, I always greatly appreciated emergency subs, and if the students loved them, they would always end up on the schedule – I never cared about where or how they did their training. In my opinion and experience, the best studios care less about how a teacher was trained and more about how well they perform in an audition class, and how the students respond to them. Plus, your certificate will be the same Tantravaya Yoga certificate that we have always issued.
How do you balance practical training with theoretical teachings?
In our teaching style the two are closely integrated. We try to alternate as frequently as possible, within individual sessions, between all the learning styles: auditory, visual, kinesthetic, etc.; this means that we try to frequently offer practical, physical opportunities to experience the theoretical teachings.
Will students receive feedback and have interaction with the teacher?
In addition to the recorded sessions, you will have like weekly meetings with Tantravaya Yoga Director Shy Sayar. You will also receive feedback on your teaching at the end of training
Are there required or recommended readings?
One nice thing about online training is that we will be able to share slides and documents with you each session, so no texts are required. However, we do find that students who prepare well before training, especially mentally and emotionally, do particularly well during training. For this reason, we recommend reading The Places that Scare You by Pema Chödrön, Non Violent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg, and Mastering Successful Work by Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche. We also encourage you to watch Shy’s classes on yogadownload.com/shy
Will I need any props for the course?
Yes, a strap and a block!
Can I get my advanced 500 hour training in Yoga Therapy with you?
Yes! A 300 hour Tantravaya Yoga Therapist+RYT500 training with Shy Sayar will follow this training.
